Bitch Is the New Black!

February 25th, 2008 by JSmith

Saturday Night Live was the first show to return post strike this week and the sketch that everyone is talking about, and by “everyone” I mean that I’m making everyone I know watch it, was Tina Fey’s contribution to Weekend Update.

Regardless of your political leanings, Tina brings another opinion to the table with style, grace, and relentless humor. Best female writer around? Yeah, deal with it.

Jennifer Smith’s favorite show, the Tina Fey run 30 Rock returns to the airways along with the rest of the NBC comedy block in early April. Whoop whoop!

Strikewatch Exclusive! TV Bosses Reveal What’s Next for Our Favorite Shows

February 11th, 2008 by ESBaker

Kristen of E-Online has some news about what will happen to numerous shows for the remainder of the season now that the WGA strike is over. Some of the shows mentioned in this article are not discussed in this blog. I wish we would. Some are just absolutely fabulous new additions. A big example is PUSHING DAISIES.—ESBaker

After three long months of winter, as icy winds swept through the deserted studio lots while production after production went into hibernation, there are signs that spring is here, and our favorite shows may soon return! (Can we get a hell yes?!)

Of course, the biggest question for us TV fans is which beloved shows will—or won’t—come back this season.

We’ve checked in with the show runners of some of the fans’ favorite series (like Lost’s Damon Lindelof, Friday Night Lights’ Jason Katims, Pushing Daisies’ Bryan Fuller and Gossip Girl and Chuck’s Josh Schwartz) for their reaction to the strike’s end and when we’ll get more episodes.

Read on to get the scoop! (And check back for more updates on all our other favorite shows as we receive them.)

Jen’s Favorite Comedies Of ‘07

January 3rd, 2008 by JSmith

Yes, I know. It’s 2008 already. But I’m on vacation til the 7th and well, we all know what a great motivator vacation can be. But I wrote up my favorite of ‘07 lists on an airplane the other day and thought I’d share. The list was pretty big, so I split it up…comedies today, dramas tomorrow. I’d love to hear what you think about my list. Agree? Something I missed? Chime in below. Read the rest of this entry »

Some Cougars To Love

December 6th, 2007 by JSmith

I can’t believe it’s come to this, but I’m having to combine my thoughts over the last two episodes of 30 Rock into one small recap. Which in itself is a travesty considering they were probably the best two episodes this series has ever had. Week after week, Tina Fey and Co. bring the funny and I’m right there on the edge of my couch hanging on their every word. And four or five times after that when I find myself re-watching the episodes again and again. It’s a sickness, but one I welcome with open arms. Read the rest of this entry »

Greenzo

November 12th, 2007 by JSmith

I still can’t get over how 30 Rock exists in reality. If it’s not who Jack dates, it’s this week’s guest character appearing on The Today Show with Merideth Viera making several appearances and Al Gore coming in to make an appearance on the show as well. I’m trying to figure out if it would’ve been funnier for David Schwimmer to play himself, in an amazing “I can’t get any work since Friends, so NBC took pity on me and hired me for this” self deprecating way. Rosemary’s Baby

November 5th, 2007 by JSmith

I’m sure by now a lot of you have seen what will probably go down as the greatest performance on television this year…Alec Baldwin nailing not one, but FOUR characters in a minute’s time. Trying to help Tracy get past his daddy issues, Jack takes on the personas of Tracy’s father, mother, the white guy who Tracy’s mother left his father for, and a hispanic neighbor all having a conversation with each other. The clip is making it’s way around the interweb (I’ll embed it at the end of this post if NBC hasn’t yanked it from wherever it may be) and is proof of what an amazing comedy 30 Rock is. Boys Becoming Men, Men Becoming Wolves!

If you loved Tracey Jordan’s “Werewolf Barmitzvah” from an episode of 30 Rock a few weeks back, take a listen to the full song! Just in time for your halloween spooking.

The Collection

October 21st, 2007 by JSmith

There’s a reason that 30 Rock keeps coming up with amazing guest stars (this week it is Steve Buchemi), because it is easily the best comedy on network television. We’ve had Rip Torn, Will Arnet, Jerry Seinfeld, Isabella Rossellini, and coming up we’ve got Carrie Fisher and Edie Falco. Not too shabby for a little comedy, eh? Read the rest of this entry »

Seinfeldvision

October 8th, 2007 by JSmith

Ah, 30 Rock. My favorite show of ‘06-07 that I didn’t even watch in the regular season is back in a show of good faith from the folks at NBC/Uni. Not only is it back, but it brought Jerry Seinfeld along for the ride in his first guest appearance on TV, ever. Stunt casting? Possibly. But for a show that so perfectly straddles the line between reality and complete and utter nonsense, there couldn’t be a better pairing. Read the rest of this entry »

All Things Peacock

October 5th, 2007 by JSmith

If you are home tonight (and even if you aren’t), Friday Night Lights returns, and not a moment too soon. If you’ve been wary of checking out this fantastic show, give tonight a try. It isn’t just all about football, but about fantastic family relationships. I can’t wait to see what this season has in store for the Taylor family.

And, I don’t want to brag or claim that it was all me, but last night’s episode of 30 Rock was up 53 percent from last season’s finale. That’s a LOT of new people jumping on board. Did you catch TV’s best comedy last night? If so, what did you think?
