Over the years, there are few movies that fuel me - that light the inspirational idea fires that carry an afternoon, a concept or effort and Toy Story is truly one of them. In fact, ALL of the Toy Story films, from the first (1995), the Toy Story franchise has illuminated many a night and tonite was no exception!

I had the pleasure of welcoming in a fellow Digital Footprint specialist, Brad Hogenmiller, who spent an hour with me talking about this classic visit to the realm of animated toys that truly changed the game in regard to animated films. Read on below for more details and please be sure to tell us what YOU think not only of this classic first offering, but of the second two. We’ll be reviewing Toy Story 2 & 3 over the next two weeks and we’ll be using YOUR comments inside of our podcast reviews!

The 2GuysTalking
TOY STORY (1995) Perspective Review
2GuysTalking has been incredibly fortunate to feature reviews for a growing number of summer feature films for 2010. Toy Story 3 has been out for a month now and it’s time for 2GuysTalking to take on a series of films that truly has changed the feature film landscape forever. We take on the first of three Perspective Reviews as we take on TOY STORY (1995)! Digital Dude Extraordinaire Brad Hogenmiller visits the 2GuysTalking Studio to talk about a movie that he saw when he was - 13! Ha! Be sure to tell us what YOU think of this classic and prepare for two more reviews as well! It’s all classic, it’s all fun and it’s all from 2GuysTalking…

The story revolves around a US Marshal who finds himself the Sheriff of a scientific think-tank town called, you guessed it, Eureka.

In the first episode of the show, he accidentally finds himself in town with his rebellious teenage daughter, Zoe, as he solves a high-tech incident. By the end of the episode he found himself transferred to the town as new town sheriff.

The show plays very loose with the rules of science. Time is broken and reshaped. AI life is born, and about the only science-fiction element that hasn’t shown up is a real alien. The threats which are often the product of expermements that go out of control come every week and they are often deadly but solvable within an hour.

The fun of show is that Jack, the Sheriff, is probably the dumbest person in town. Everyone in town holds Doctorates of some kind, even the town chef. His daughter and the rest of her classmates are so smart, they make him look ignorant. And usually that difference in intelligence leads to the answers. He has a very blunt, way of looking at problems by stripping away all the jargon and simply just looking at things and suggesting things his smarter friends would never think of. And usually that’s the answer. Then he often puts his body in danger to save the day.

But the science experiments and disasters is only part of the fun. The show has its share of humor, unrequited love, sadness, joy and change with the illusion of change. All these elements work together into the most pleasurable of shows.

This year is turning out to be no exception. The new season began on July 9th with “Founder’s Day.” Four of the main characters–Jack, Allyson–the boss and Jack’s unrequited love, Henry, Jack’s best friend along with the bumbling Fargo found themselves transported back in time 40 years to the founding of town.

Trapped, the four need to find their way back and as usual, Henry figures out the way. (Henry, the town mayor and mechanic is the genius among geniuses and he’s usually the one that puts Jack’s ideas to work. Though today, he didn’t need that help.)

The four return home, but not alone and not without consequences. As I said before, the show has seen time broken and reshaped and that has happened here. In each of their lives things have changed, some might be good, some are bad but they are definitely surprising. But the biggest surprise of all is that they accidentally brought someone back with them.

The rest of the season seems to be building upon these changes.

In a way, I can see why they did it. It shakes things up. We undoubtedly have not seen all the changes and that’s where things can be really risky. If they change too many things that people like, it could cost them viewers. On the other hand, it could make them more fascinating. In any case, it should be an interesting ride especially since there will always be the question of whether the changes will remain or be restored at the end of the season, or some mixtureof both.

For the most part Eureka has walked the line between the episode by episode storyline and the over arching season long storyline. I hope they continue that trend because i have seen too many shows lose the good solid single episode stories for the sake of the season long storyline. The former is as important, as the later; maybe even more important.

If they do, I’m really looking forward to the latest season of Eureka.

Two years ago we had the honor of having a guest host join us for our JJ Abrahms STAR TREK Review - Paul Spataro. Paul’s brother, Michael was taken way too soon by Pancreatic Cancer and Paul and his family are able to participate in a gallant, righteous charity walk each year that I am honored to help promote.

This year, 2010, the walking effort powers forth again and YOU, and any donation you can conjure, will help make the difference in the lives of people afflicted with as well as those who have not yet had the sad experience of dealing with Pancreatic Cancer. I am honored to provide banner art and inserted podcast ads to this years “Lustgarten Foundation Pancreatic Cancer Research Walk”, in particular to support Team Spataro - an extended group of people that honor a man I wish I’d have had the chance to have in my family.

The passion, drive and effort that Paul and his family conjure every year is one of the many relationships that fuels me - drives me to be better than I have been to help their effort and potentially help someone out there not have to endure the terribly fast fate of dealing with Pancreatic Cancer.

Please visit the TEAM SPATARO Webpage, and make a donation. No number is too small and it all helps make a dent in the fight against a growing and ultra-deadly disease that claims to many, and is a true family-wrecking ball.

Again, my thanks to Paul and his family who are genuine beacons of goodwill, education and faith that make my days pass - YOU ROCK.

(Small Business Communications Podcast Intro begins: typewriter feeding in paper is heard. The typewriter’s guide arm slaps into place. Typing begins as the music begins to fade in…) Small businesses are one vital component of the American economy that manage to weather any financial storm. They are the foundation of what makes opportunities for millions each and every day. My name is Kent Martin. I’ve seen just about every kind of business model there is over the years. Some are strong, others have endured and some - well - if there weren’t bad ones we couldn’t understand how great the good ones are, right? So join me as I share perspectives, theories and outright facts about how businesses both large and small communicate and how YOU can strengthen and improve your company communications during the 2GuysTalking Small Business Communications Podcast. (Typewriter bell dings)
Once upon a time … that’s how almost every fairy tale begins. And let’s face it, who among us doesn’t enjoy a good story told well? Just about everybody enjoys storytelling. And if you’re a small business owner trying to break through the clutter in today’s media traffic jam, that’s good news.

Because you don’t have to be overwhelmed by all the choices available today online, broadcasting, social media, print name it. It may seem that the ways to communicate are complex and endless, and your task is overwhelming.
In reality, what matters is what you want to tell your audience. And how you do that is through telling a good story.
Consider some of the more memorable stories you’ve ever heard about a company or an organization. Colonel Sanders had been selling his famous fried chicken to patrons of his restaurant for years before launching his franchise empire at the age of 65. What about the secret recipe for Coca-Cola? The inventor who created Post-It notes while working for 3-M and didn’t know what to do with an adhesive that wasn’t terribly strong until he noticed how useful it was in helping keep markers in hymnals at his church.

Your business may not have as compelling a story as these but keep your eyes and ears open for the possibility. Talk about your business with friends. See what catches their interest, their curiosity.
Look at your company. What is it about your business that separates it from the pack? What is it that makes you most proud and makes you want to tell everyone else? Is it a product? Is it how you serve your customers? Is it a reputation for quality you’ve built over the years?

Now think about a story you can tell about your work. Or how you can talk about your work in a story. How might you tell someone you just met at a meeting, a party or even the coffee shop about your work? What comes to mind first about your business?

From this storytelling could come a message, a message that can become a cornerstone in your PR efforts. Remember, you want to create a strategy to boost business by helping customers and prospects know your company better than your competitors.

Maybe your service is first and foremost in your business. Think of a way to tell others why service is so important. Look at UPS and how it competes with Federal Express. Its marketing slogan is short and sweet: What can brown do for you? What it does is tell customers UPS is devoted to serving them. That’s a story that’s easy to tell.

Think about telling stories, too, when talking with your employees. Have your PR department identify stories among your own workers that demonstrate the principles behind your company. Instead of telling your staff what to do and what not to do, tell them stories about their colleagues that achieve the same goal. Your internal communications initiatives are so much more effective when you begin by saying, “Once upon a time “ instead of “Now hear this“

Again, this is what makes effective communications: Telling your story in such a way that your audience wants to hear more and most importantly, remembers what you’ve told them.

We’ll look at other ways of telling great stories in our next episode. For the 2GuysTalking Podcast Network, I’m Kent Martin.

I’ve been plagued by writer’s block. I am just glad that, hopefully, the writer’s block left me.—ESBaker

What an episode. Today it’s Friday, three days have passed since I saw this LOST episode for the first time (I have rewatched it at least 6 times), and my jaw is still on the floor.

First of all, let me get some things off my mind. One of my jobs when I was a Freshmen in college was that of a dental assistant. Because of that former career, I look at people’s teeth a lot. So, it baffles my mind that Jack, who is supposedly the son of a successful spinal surgeon (which means he comes from money) has crooked teeth. As the son of a wealthy doctor, Jack would have had braces in his mouth by age 12 or 13.

Another bone of contention is Bernard. As a dentist, he too, should not have crooked teeth. Dentists don’t have crooked teeth. LOL. Of course, all of this is minor compared with Jack’s major breach of doctor’s behavior in this particular episode.

So unto my observations, Jack has not changed in the sideways world. He is still fixing things and adamant about it. He wants to fix John. He wants John to walk. But John does not want to go through the surgery. We will find out later why, but frankly, I don’t buy it.

When John refuses to go through the surgery that Jack is offering, he goes to Bernard (John’s dentist, or at least the dentist who did some emergency oral surgery on John when he had the accident that made him paraplegic 3 years earlier) for further information about the accident. It struck me strange that Bernard was in the same airplane that John was in (Oceanic 815), yet John didn’t recognize him or acknowledge that he was on the plane. Really weird.

Another weird thing is the way Bernard behaves in this episode. He seems to know about the both worlds (sideways and island). He gives Jack hints and weird smiles. I wish that LOST had gone deeper into the character build ups. Maybe one day a book will be written with more depth to it. (Dream on!)

Flocke is an evil bastard. But I think that in order to accomplish what he wants to do, which is to free himself of the island, he has to be an evil bastard. Although LOST is always giving us conflicting answers, I think that we we were finally given a major answer: Flocke can’t free himself without killing all the candidates. Island law mandates that he not kill the candidates. So, he has to find a loophole. He has to make it that the candidates kill each other. However, the candidates cannot commit suicide, but they can kill each other. The candidates cannot be forced into any situation they don’t want to be in. They have to want to be in that situation. This was the old rule that Ben told Jack way back in Season 3 when Ben needed his tumor on his back removed.

Jack was adamant that he wanted to stay on the island. If he were to stay on the island, Flocke would not be free. So Flocke manipulated the situation in such a way that Jack willingly went inside the submarine. Flocke switched backpacks on John, giving him the backpack rigged with a bomb that would not explode, but would give the impression that it would. It was up to the candidates to make the bomb detonate, and Sawyer, being the man without faith, pulled the wire that would make the bomb detonate. For once, Jack knew what he was talking about. He was being the good shepherd, but Sawyer would not listen. I don’t think Flocke took into consideration that Sayid was not totally evil. Sayid sacrificed himself for the good of the group. It was he who took the brunt of the bomb. He thus redeemed himself. I wonder what will happen to him in the sideways world now that he is gone off the island.

Something interesting that I read and have noticed myself is that the intervals between night and day on the island are short. The group gets caught by Widmore’s group at daytime and by the time they get to the Hydra station from the beach (a feat that was accomplished within minutes during Season 3), now took either a lot of hours or time flew by really fast. I wonder what the time increase is all about.

LOST has got to stop making me cry so much. Jin and Sun’s Titanic death was heart wrenching. I know that they are surviving in the sideways world, but still their island death was simply awful. I cried and cried when I saw that their hands unlocked. And then watching Hurley cry on the beach was not helpful either. Jack and Kate cried on and off during all the episodes, but not Hurley. Hurley was hurting. And man, so was I. This episode was hard to watch, and I think the roller coaster just started going.

All pictures were screencapped by spicedogs and are available here.

(music)

Hi, I’m Senator Scott Rupp. And I have been fighting for the rights of families and children affected by autism for the past several years.

This year, in Missouri as well as several other states, we’re very close to giving insurance coverage for the treatment of autism. We hope that you will help us make a difference in the lives of millions across the nations and in your state by contacting your state legislators and saying that autism is important to you, and they need to continue the battle.

We want you to log on to the 2GuysTalking website at 2GuysTalking.com/autism. There you’ll find contacts, links, and more to lead the next important stage in our battle against autism.

Thank you for your efforts and your time, and I’m Senator Scott T. Rupp, and I hear the 2GuysTalking effort to stamp out autism.

=====

2GuysTalking is an Internet radio show providing you with entertainment, a sharing of viewpoints, and fun! Join us as we venture into the world of entertainment discussing a variety of topics, from television shows, DVD’s, feature films, and more. This week: 2GuysTalking 24!

[MIKE]

One has to wonder what the 8th season of the hit FOX show 24 would have looked like with just a few writing alterations and a couple of character additions this year. Well, you know what? It would have a lot like this episode—episode 18, of 24 season 8. Ultra-solid pacing, lots of information, the full spectrum of acting across the board, and even the introduction of characters you love to hate from previous seasons!

A fan recently wrote in with a quote that feels terribly appropriate, as we launch this episode of the 2GuysTalking 24 podcast, reviewing episode 18. It reads, “It looks like Palmer will go down as the only president on 24 that truly got what Jack Bauer is. He’s the only one who really understood that Jack is the ‘break glass in case of emergency and get the hell out of the way’ kind of guy. President Taylor is about to see what makes Jack ‘Jack, the relentless pursuit of justice that steamrolls whoever gets in its way—terrorist or president.”

And with that, we start the episode 18 review of 24 season 8 here, on the 2GuysTalking 24 podcast! Sponsored by Sprint’s Relay Missouri, Acoustica’s Mixcraft recording software, and Ability Interpreting.

A Quick and Humorous Transcripted Podcast Review
Of Each and Every Episode of Fringe on Fox!
Time: 7min

(Music Starts) “Ready, Set, Go! - Fringe - In - Sixty…” (Music Ends) Go!

Mechanical Beeping in Sequence

Ticking Clock begins…

Rush’s Tom Sawyer, mean mean stride makes it’s melodious melodied way from a classic car where two youngin’s are sharing a joint. Suddenly, the ground rumbles and the windows blow out of the joint next to their car! Of course the young man gets out to investigate. Lights, lighting, more strange power emanations and more broken glass pepper the area, but the young man continues! He eventually finds a room, where blobs of energy are - energating, growing, into something - alive! The young man grabs a metal pipe and curiously sticks it into the growing blob of semi-protoplasm and Snnnap! An already grown and terribly ugly, standing, angry and strong figure snaps (neck cracks) his neck! A tri-speared plug is secured to the now very dead young man’s soft pallet, the other end? Secured to what we now clearly know is a shape shifter (shifterrrrrrrr). The device between the two connections engages and quickly, and horribly, the very young shape shifter becomes a now not dead version of the very dead young man! The Shifter Young Man heads back to the car where the young lass has stayed and is scared - but is suddenly even more scared as she too is put to death (neck cracks) and taken over!

Budda-budda-buum.. Dooopa-dooda-doopa, da doodoo doopa doooa…

Walter Bishop is yet again rearranging his wall photos! Peter says that they all look just fine and that staying up all night is a bit strange, on the fringe perhaps! He tries to coax Walter out of his “strange several-week situation” with the potential cooking of a pie! But, Walter Bishop wants to talk. It’s something Peter deserves to know. You see, every living thing dies and (cell phone rings) Dammit! The dreaded cell phone! It’s Agent Dunham who again has a situation hereby interrupting Walter’s painful parlay to provide Peter with the perplexing, unthinkable pravda of his origin! Maybe next time, right?

The Fringe bunch arrive on scene and instantly recognize the punctures in the female victim’s pallet as shape shifter activity! The FBI is informed as Walter finds the remnants of a joint - without any lipstick indicating - a second potential victim! They search to find the young man’s corpse! Now there are TWO shape shifters in place! But wait! What’s THIS!? Under some pickle boxes lies - a blob! That’s right! a not-yet-hatched shape shifter! Walter decides to make a rather large incision and >GASP!< out comes mercury! And look! A shifting device!

Back to the lab it goes! (Ricochet)

The two new shifted bodies make their way into a camera shop where >GASP!< It’s Newton! They convey that a third shape shifter didn’t make it and the plan will have to be altered!

The Fringe team discover some kind of interference in the neighborhood around the place where the bodies were found. Walter thinks that it’s a signal from the “Other Side” that ends up being a math equation that depicts a strange “surge!” With some help from the folks at Massive Dynamic, they find that the waves from this and the other universe will “sync” at 3:31pm - tomorrow!

Newton and the two newly arrived personnel discuss the meet-up at 3:31pm! They’ve got their orders and are going through with the plan even though they’re a man down and unprepared (just like most modern-day political events).

Walter Bishop is convinced that a door between this side and the other side is what will be constructed tomorrow and heads off to do some research! Peter thinks that in addition to being old, crabby, generally constipated and overweight, thinks that Walter wants to talk to him about his mother dying! It wasn’t a car accident! It wasn’t even that she couldn’t wait until May sweeps, it was SUICIDE! It was the last time that he’d talked to his father while in St. Claire’s and now he wants to talk about it! Agent Dunham tries to console him and not blurt out the truth and - IN WALKS Walter to change the conversation! Time to roast a reindeer! Walter needs car batteries and oh - a dead body, dead no longer than 2 days! The Fringe crew springs into action! (Ricochet)

Newton arrives at a bank where he meets the once again mutated, used to be a girl shape shifter who is now a bank executive! They go into a vault and set up something red, blinking and flashing into in the floor of the vault!

Back at the lab, Walter Bishop, Astrid, Olivia and Peter are essentially reanimating the might-be-dead shape shifter! They amp up the car battery voltage and the blob springs to life! “Contact Newton! Daniel Verona!” But the creature lives for only a moment and then it dies (just like the hope of political bliss in the near future). The FBI instantly finds and takes Daniel Verona into custody! Hmm - I wonder what he was going to do?

Snap to a phone booth where Newton makes a call to 911, and tells of a man, that looks much like him, who is having a heart attack! He then takes a pill, not a blue one, not a red one, a BLACk one and falls to the ground and “dies!” He’s taken instantly into Boston General’s morgue where he unzips his body bag and plants a second of apparently 3 red, blinking, flashing devices! We know there are three because - Ding Ding Ding! Walter remembers sending a car “to the other side” utilizing common points! The shape shifting agents who are now on our side will be creating a like portal sending whatever is inside the triangle to THIS side! And he’s right! A third red blinking flashing device is set establishing three points thereby establishing the portal on THIS side!

After some crafty mapwork, (truck tears off) team is dispatched to the river where Newton and company have already established the portal! A shootout ensues! Walter Bishop is trying to create an inverted sound wave to counter the one that Newton is trying to create! but Walter must get the laptop and device he’s using to the center of the bridge! He drives the truck to the center of the downed bridge just as the three triangles on this side come alive! The ground and everything on top of it around them begins to shake! Peter heads to the bridge to save his father, Walter Bishop!

Walter, Agent Dunham, and Broyles all get clear off the bridge! As they turn, they see another strange, ghostly piece of the bridge almost appear! A man is walking down the bridge to the other side towards Newton! Peter Bishop and Agent All-Too-Familiar red shirt are on the other side, and finally - Peter gets Walter’s machine working! A sound wave emanates from the center of the bridge, instantly disintegrating Agent All-Too-Familiar red shirt! Peter is knocked to the ground but unharmed and locks the laptop cancelling frequency back into place thereby saving the day! He’s then sent flying backward and knocked unconscious!

A day plus later, Peter Bishop awakens, fine but interested to see his father, Walter, alone. Walter sprints into the room to find not a happy son returning from herodom, but a man that realizes that - because he didn’t die from the blast wave (like agent red shirt) it means that he too is “from the other side.” Clearly, Apparently Peter read the title of this episode inside of TVGuide!! Ha! The guilt of him being taken from the other side killed his mother, ate at Walter’s internal wall, and has now completely eaten away any potential trust that Walter Bishop and Peter Bishop had.

“I’d like to be alone now…” Peter tersely shares…

Newton is apparently providing assistance to “Mr. Secretary” who should be stabilized shortly. A strong grip solidifies resolve, hope and future intentions.

Agent Dunham arrives at Walter’s home to tell him that Peter checked himself out the hospital and is not readily available or answer his phone. He’s - gone.

And the Budda-Budda-Buumm Continues…
(Scratchy Record starts as music kicks in)Fringe-in-60+! is a quick and humorous transcripted podcast review of each and every episode of the hit Fox show, “Fringe”.
(The buttons of a special, technological wonder machine beep, and a ticking clock engages! A cartoony voice bellows, “24 in 60!”)

Sexy Agent Walker has died!

A truly somber way to start this 18th episode of Season 8 of the hit fox show 24! Jack has a touching moment with a nurse that is ushering him out of the operating room and is greeted by another nurse who has stolen clothing from an intern (clothes flap in the wind) so as to clothe now barefooted, bloody-shirted jilted post-coital hero Jack Bauer! The crisp silence is broken (incredibly loud, pointed cell phone ring) by the ear splitting sparkplug like ringing of his cell phone! (incredibly loud, pointed cell phone ring) It’s Chloe with intel! She’s sorry, he’s angry, and there’s a whole lot of ass-kickin comin’ on! (The 2GuysTalking: 24 Podcast Tone rings out, a crowd cheers, delighted)

Basaev, the Russian father is due to stand trial less than a day after he was caught! Amazing! Jacks on his way to see and talk to him to find out who DID this to Renee, Dammit!

Ethan is back in politicians clothing consulting again President Taylor! she tells him that Logan has already on his way to talk to the slimy russian envoy!

Logan enthusiastically greets Nikoslavoimasonovobitch and SHINES! It’s great to see local be a true craftsman with information! This information? THE RUSSIAN GOVERNMENT stopped the peace process including Nikoslavoimasonovobitch to stall the peace process by having President Hassan MURDERED! The price of LOGANs silence? Nikoslavoimasonovobitch must attend and paricipate in the peace talks! Ha! Back to the table for the Russians, (Soccer stadium crowd-like chat begins, a play-by-play announcer calls) Goaaaaalllll Charles LOGAN! GOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL!

Jack Bauer arrives, somehow freshly in court, where (Basaev) The Russian Father is awaiting trial. Along with Basaev in this early court session are his wife, daughter-in-law and grandson. Bail is DENIED! Counsel wants 5 minutes to chat with his client - Court is CLEARED! Only Bauer, Basaev and the BAILFF remain! The conversation? (whispering, loudly) JACK WILL KILL ALL OF HIS FAMILY unless he gets told who shot Sexy Agent Walker! (Bird singing sound effects) Basaev SINGS LIKE A BIRD! It was the Russian Government! Bastards! All of it, they were behind it all! The woman working with them planned it all! Her name? (drumroll) DANA/Jenny/Mole Walsh! >GASP!< Jack heads CTUWARD! (Ricochet sound)

Charles Logan (schoolboy-like giggle) is GIDDY AS A SCHOOL BOY!(schoolboy-like giggle) Why? President Taylor calls to thank him for getting the Russians back to the peace table with pen in hand! Whoohooo! (schoolboy-like giggle) Charles Logan considers his door to potential US prestige RE-OPENED! Ha! Idiot! (Glass Breaks)

Agent Cole suddenly is told by Chloe that in addition to his fiancee’ being a liar, a murderer, an undercover operative who weasels her way into eveyrone’s interests both in personal and business circles, a middle layer of lazy storytelling for the hit fox show 24 in season 8, AND one of the now storied too many who have become a mole in the realm of 24, she is also - guilty of working with the Russians to kill President Hassan and to smuggle nuclear material into New York to irradiate it! Bah! That’s gotta’ sting, man! Boy, some guys just can pick em, eh? (laughing)

Charles Logan learns of Jacks newfound involvement and his eye (Ricoche sound) - begins to - twitch (jerky voice) - like it did - several seasons agoooooo. Ahhhhhh! It’s time to ask President Taylor to intervene and shut down Jack Bauer!

(Tires screech into place) Jack Bauer arrives at CTU and is about to put the literal screws to Dana/Jenny/Mole! Ahh, screw the screws! How about some old fashion fisticuffs! Jack introduces she who is also Starbuck into the luscious set decorator’s table top inside interrogation room 5! (Cartoony BONK! sound) Jack bludgeons 1 (open hand smack sound) - 2 (open hand smack sound) - 3 (open hand smack sound) - 4 (open hand smack sound) times with the most striking open backhand since the days of McEnroe and Dana/Jenny/Mole - spills the beans! (Boung sound!) Well almost! For yet another initiated and verified immunity deal, she’ll open up the faucet of foundational knowledge and bring the whole deck of cards crashing down! (Thund sound)

President Taylor is told that Sexy Agent Walker is dead - by Charles Logan?! Jack Bauer is intent on interrogating Dana/Jenny/Mole Walsh oh - and by the way, The Russian Government is completely behind the introduction of the Nuclear Material and y’know the - whole uh, murder of the President Hassan thing. That too. Bottom line! If Jack Bauer blows the whistle, the the peace process falls apart! (first portiong of boat sinking alarm initiates) Now or never, Allison!!! (last portion of boat sinking alarm screams, echoes)

The phone at CTUNY rings and - holy schnikes! It’s President Taylor who is on her way and she arrives in a short 21 seconds! (Ricochet) The President arriveth! (President Taylor’s voice) Thank you to all of you during this long day for your work, your vigilance and ability to never sleep, go to the bathroom and oh - for living in perpetual fear of the server room of death. (Sniffing) By the way, what is that rotting Parole Officer in the wall panel smell? (laughing)

She meets with Jack Bauer alone and makes the urgent plea to Jack to stand down.Peace is back on track. flowers are blooming, my complexion is clear, Ethan’s back from yet another stroke, and hey - we’re not irradiated! All is good, Jack! The greater good Jack! Come on, move on! Hassans Widow has! Everyone’s doin’ it. Was Renee really that great anyway? You had a piece Jack, now let the world have peace! Do you understand!? I’m sending you via helicopter to an out of the way air force base because of course that’s the best place for you right now in the storyline. No escaping and going rogue, now. DO YOU UNDERSTAND, JACK?

Jack Bauer’s voice says “yes” but his thirst for justice and to make the last 6 hours of the hit Fox show EVER also a hit require something with a bit more kick! (horse whinneys)

(Helicopter fades into the foreground) Falcon 1, a helicopter-based aerial recon lands at CTU to pick up one Jack Bauer, to head to McGuire Air Force Base for debrief! But first!? Jack Bauer-based Helicopter Hijack Hi-jinx! Whoohooo! It’s time for Jack to go rogue - again! And as an intern is sent to a payphone to notify the Air Force that they need to neutralize on Jack Bauer in a helicopter, the boop beep boop beep continues…

(crowd says, “Hello, Mike…”)

For the last 5 years, I have been breaking down each and every adventure of the venerable, almost super-hero character, Jack Bauer and his hit adventures of 24. While our hour-long discussion 24-centric podcasts truly have fueled me for that time, there is a little bit of golden magic that I am so grateful to “endure” for each of those episodes.

It’s called “The 24-in-60+!”, a quick and humorous general “review” of each and every episode of “24″, corralling all of the pertinent goings-on inside a 44-minute episode in just a few minutes!

This most recent hour of 24 helped me realize just what a gargantuan task creating something quick, funny and entertaining from the generally tragic is. You see, in the last 15 hours, Jack has been separated from his remaining family, shot at, tortured by electrocution, beat on (fists, phone books and twisted rebar remnants) incessantly, been lied to by every manner of person on the planet, survived a point-blank suicide bomber vest, had sex for the first time in over 3 and a half years, and held his newfound-just-had-sex-five-minutes-ago girlfiend as she lays dying from a sniper’s bullet.

Oh yeah, and last hour, Jack survived and protected a family from a 12-man covert wet operations team assault in an effort to capture a visiting foreign dignitary (President Hassan of the clearly-fictional “Kamistan”) who was eventually taken, and had his throat slit as showcased on a live, Internet anywhere/everywhere station for all to see.

And those are just the last two hours. As you can see there’s something to creating a complete series of episode synopses that not only entertain, not only give the details you need to understand what you may have just watched, but that also entertain and make you laugh while conveying language, lexicon and FUN inside of our 2GuysTalking: 24 Podcast run.

It’s all coming to an end soon! Just 6 more episodes left and now is the time for YOU to check out the “24-in-60+!” for the last season of 24 and jump aboard as we scream towards not only the end of a series, but the end of the Jack Bauer era. Click here to check out the 2GuysTalking: 24 Podcast series now and be sure to tell us what you think of both our 24-in-60+! episodes, and our complete series review podcasts. We are ALWAYS interested in hearing what others think and now is a great time to send us input! We’re compiling input for our “All Fan Input” show that will take place shortly after the last 24Podcast.Com effort is recorded.

Thanks to everyone that already listens and also to those of us who will eventually listen. We always appreciate your time and effort and are proud to create something that entertains, engages and showcases the passions of heroes, story and more.

Public Relations (PR) - What is It?

(Small Business Communications Podcast Intro begins: typewriter feeding in paper is heard. The typewriter's guide arm slaps into place. Typing begins as the music begins to fade in...) Small businesses are one vital component of the American economy that manage to weather any financial storm. They are the foundation of what makes opportunities for millions each and every day. My name is Kent Martin. I've seen just about every kind of business model there is over the years. Some are strong, others have endured and some - well - if there weren't bad ones we couldn't understand how great the good ones are, right?
Dealing with Scandals

When you think back on news stories that have made headlines over the years, no doubt many of them that come to mind most quickly involve scandals, and the companies and celebrities ensnared in them.

But think back again and consider how you remember them. You probably put them into two categories: Those companies who failed miserably at dealing with said scandals, and those companies who dealt with these scandals not only professionally and intelligently but did so in such a way that their response actually enhanced their reputation.

Some of the biggest PR mistakes made in corporate America in recent times occurred on or near Wall Street and Detroit. The bonuses handed out to top executives of companies that had been given federal bailout funding drew scorn and criticism. Whether or not those bonuses were justified, the outcry and protests from taxpayers and lawmakers alike forced some recipients of the bonuses to give them back.

Top executives from the Big Three automakers made a similar PR faux pas when they flew … on corporate jets, no less … to Capitol Hill for hearings into their requests for bailout assistance. Yes, they flew, prompting citizens and commentators to question why they didn’t drive the cars their own company manufactured. However the auto company leaders decided to travel to Washington, it seems virtually certain they did not consult their own very capable PR departments for advice.

On the other hand, other major corporations responded to their own crises in a straightforward manner and in doing so, deflected much of the criticism they might otherwise have faced. Take Domino’s, for example. You’ll recall the incident earlier in the summer when two employees now, former employees of a Domino’s Pizza restaurant videotaped how they made sandwiches and pizzas in an especially disgusting manner, and then posted the video on YouTube, one of the top social media venues today. The video went viral overnight and Domino’s CEO eventually posted his own video explaining the situation and how the company dealt with it. The incident soon subsided, though Domino’s drew some heat for not responding quickly enough. (That’s part of the reality in today’s Internet-driven world: Domino’s took almost two days before posting its response video when it should have responded within hours of learning about it. On the Internet, time flies more quickly than perhaps anywhere else in the world.)

Years ago, the makers of Tylenol, Johnson and Johnson, helped write the book on crisis communications when it confronted its own tampering crisis. Johnson and Johnson recalled millions of bottles of Tylenol, halted all advertisements and later re-introduced Tylenol in tamper-resistant packages, offering coupons and special presentations to the medical community to help restore the public’s trust in Tylenol.

That’s how you deal with a crisis: Head-on … and with transparency. And that’s a job for public relations. In today’s society and especially in the 24-7 world of social media, when messages and opinions can take a life of their own almost instantly, it is imperative that a company look at its own PR strategy and how it would handle a worst-case scenario.

Now, absent a crisis, how do you talk about your company to your audience? That’s what PR does, and that’s what we’ll discuss in our next episode.

For the 2 Guys Talking podcast network, I’m Kent Martin.

Public Relations (PR) - What is It?

(Small Business Communications Podcast Intro begins: typewriter feeding in paper is heard.

What a time to be in business for yourself! Yet this is the very time when you need to look to the future when times will be better. Now is the time to start reaching your audience with your vision. And one way to do it … is with public relations.

Everyone has a different opinion of PR. Some see it as free advertising. Others call it “spin.” Still others struggle to see any value in it because its effectiveness is not easy to measure. At least with advertising, you see the final product. Your audience may remember where they saw the ad.

It may be easier to understand if we talk about what PR is … and what it is not.

First, PR is not advertising. With advertising, you pay to place an ad in a specific medium. Generally, you have control over the look and tone of your, where your ad is placed, how many times it runs and how long it runs.

In public relations, you have none of these controls. You generally will not have any control over the article in which your business is mentioned, you may not know when the article will run, you will not know what the writer will use from your interview.
So with such vast differences between advertising and PR, why do so many businesses choose to use a PR plan in their work? Mainly because PR is most effective in what it does: Deliver your message to your audience through a third party.

In advertising, a reader or viewer will see the ad and know immediately what it is:

A promotion for some business or service that someone else paid to place there. Advertising is still a powerful delivery vehicle for messages and thoughts – billions of dollars in goods and services have been sold over the years through successful ad campaigns - but the impact a message placed by effective PR can be powerful in developing and polishing a company’s image, which can result in greater customer loyalty and increased sales.

You see and read about PR efforts everyday, yet because they’re written into an article or are part of a broadcast or online event, you probably are not even aware that PR has played a key role behind the scenes. Consider those appearances of celebrities and musicians on the Today Show everyday. Advertising did not place them there. Today Show producers need to fill a programming slot with a live performance for the crowds outside their studios, and publicists compete to place their customers on the show.

Let’s look at another example:

When you read an article and an expert source is quoted, such as a car dealer talking about car sales in today’s economy, a publicist is usually the catalyst who connects the reporter and the car dealer. The car dealer may have placed an ad about current sales on his or her lot, alongside scores of other dealer ads, but the dealer’s comment in a news article elevates his or her status in the reader’s eyes. That dealer may now be viewed as perhaps more expert or successful than other dealers.
See the difference between PR and advertising? See why an effective PR campaign can enhance your image among your audiences? Advertising can reach the impulse buyer and can remind someone about a brand but PR can help a business develop a level of trust and respect among customers which can lead to more sales.

Put another way: PR can generate buzz and conversation and raise interest in something or someone.

Advertising can be the call to action.

And there’s something else PR can do for a company, especially if that company hits a rough patch in the road.

More on that next time.

For the 2 Guys Talking Podcast Network, I’m Kent Martin.

We previously wondered how last week’s episode was written by the same team of writers because it was that good. This week’s episode clearly has lineage to the two previous episodes - more like the evil, deformed, left in the corner too long pseudo-twin, actually. With a return to lazy writing, instant fixes, impregnable bullet proof vests and yes - yet ANOTHER MOLE, this episode feels the wrath of two guys who tire of the same old same old. What did YOU think? Strap on your flight suit, cue the cheesy “Goose is dead” music, and prepare for the onset of what we think just might be a flat unrecoverable spin for 24.
(Music Starts) “Ready, Set, Go! - Fringe - In - Sixty…” (Music Ends) Go!

Mechanical Beeping in Sequence

Ticking Clock begins…

Two coworkers share coffee - and another tremor - (shuddering wave-like sound)the sixth during the same day - in their office - in New York City? During the episode known as “Jacksonville.”

They’re just microquakes surely a byproduct of the other other fringe science called “Global Warming!”(shuddering wave-like sound)

As one of the workers adjourns for the evening another violent quake arrives, (shuddering wave-like sound) car alarms ignite outside (car and fire alarms sound), the frame onscreen shakes as if we’re reviewing another shot from the summer blockbuster STAR TREK! (echoing “also another JJ Abrams project”)

Another violent tussle and (shuddering wave-like sound and blast sound) a FLASH! As the lights spool up and sparks shine a dancing vision of what’s happened, the remaining worker awakens!

This shoulder pinned to the ground by a pole that has strangely appeared, his office in chaos and - oh yeah, he’s got two extra sets of arm and legs!? He bellows and screams! (bellowing and scream is echoed in two distinct voices)

Budda-budda-buum.. Dooopa-dooda-doopa, da doodoo doopa doooa…

Agent Dunham calls Peter and tells him that they’ve just won a free trip to New York City!

(echoing) New York City? Yes, New York City! (Ricochet)

The Fringe crew arrives to the seemingly rearranged building - no survivors are left! Walter Bishop guestimates that the dead are victims of a quantum techtonic event but there’s more research that needs to be done!

(echoes) “The third floor’s got a survivor!” It’s our friend with mutiple arms and legs! “Call my wife, I want someone to call my wife!” Mr. Pratchet says.

Walter has a theory of what’s happened bacause apparently Mr. Pratchet doesn’t have a wife! (echoes) Hmm. Pritchart says that it’s 2010, that Obama is the President and that the buildings attacked on 9-11 included the Pentagon and The White House (screating record sound)! Wait a second! The White House?

Suddenly, a bulbous orb beneath Mr. Pratchet’s shirt begins to move - after the shirt is opened another Mr. Pritchart head is revealed! >Gasp!< Two diverging and completely alternate realities have MERGED on top of eachother!
(echoing - “Just like modern day politics.”)

It smells like Newton again! Agent Dunham is SURE he was here!

It’s another originally William Bell and Walter Bishop experiment gone awry and it doesn’t stop there! Another building, inhabitants and all will disappear from OUR side! The building will glimmer and then disappear and only Agent Olivia Dunham can “see” the Glimmer thanks to her special skill set Walter Bishop and William Bell cultivated so many years ago in Jacksonville!

Yes! The Cortexiphan Trials! She can identify things from the other side! A horrible and magical skill set to be sure!
It’s time to go to JACKSONVILLE appropriately and recreate the experiment! There’s no other choice! On to Jacksonville!

(Ricochet!)

The division truckster pulls into Jacksonville Day Care Center, the macabre center of strange activities so long ago. A quick 5-20-10 on a combination lock and Walter Bishop and company are inside!

(Ominous atmosphere effects) Flickering flourescent lights, items left in place and shimmering wall decorations ring no bells at all for Agent Dunham. A strange experience for someone with a freakishly good memory!

The experiments again begin. (thumping house music) Agent Dunham is wired into a chair an IV drop of Cortexiphan is initiated. (another strange atmosphereical sound) She suddenly finds herself strolling in a tall forest! There’s someone else there! Her heartrate elevates as Walter snacks on Pretzels! (rumbling of a plastic bag full of snacks)
Now in the dark, in the same forest, roars and screams diverge left and right - it’s terrifying for her much less a child! Agent Dunham finds a small child named Olive!? Dunham can’t believe that Bishop and Bell were doing this to little children - but it’s the same concept as in The Empire Strikes Back - lighten up, Olivia…

After the beginning of the experiment, Agent Dunham still cannot see or identify any of the 16 objects from “the other side” in the classroom! She feels no fear!

Back in New York, dogs once again start to howl! Microquakes again begin to increase! The event is coming!
Walter Bishop is now watching old pseudo-home movies (sound of cartoony items being manipulated) of the process of building children into more than they intially were. He realizes that fear is the key Agent Dunahm reacquiring her ability to help save the people in peril now in New York!

Fear leads to hate. Hatred leads to being a skilled FBI Agent, and Agent Dunham is a great FBI Agent and has been all these years!

It’s way too esoteric but something that’s driving the show this season and so (Ricochet!) the story continues!
As the team traverses back to New York, tremors are increasing. Massive Dynamic continues their research to find out what’s going on and where the building will eventually vanish!

It’s time for Mass! (church bell echoes) Not the churchlike kind, the kind where one thing from this side must equal the same thing that appears on the other side! It’s time to find the general size and mass of every building that matches the one that previously disappeared in New York!

They begin nixing builds with computers, dry erase markers, and hope but TIME HAS RUN OUT! (scissors clipping, large object falling) We’re down to a total of 147 buildings spread all over Manhattan! Thousands are in peril! “There are times that when they only choices you have a bad ones” states Broyles which scares the hell out of Agent Dunham!
Thereby reginiting her fear reaction which punches the start button for the superpowers she previously had! (melodic voices sound) She and Peter almost share a touching kiss but break away (whoohooo!). As Agent Dunham darts to a giant picture window to try to see which building is going to disappear! (melodic voices sound)

She sees a building in the near distance and a quiet smile straps itself to her previously frowning visage!
The tremors begin once again as Agent Dunham jumps into a Fringemobile (car accelerating sound) and begins driving to the site! It’s on Washingon! She sees it! (melodic voices sound)It’s the Brayson Place Hotel! (screaming voices from left and right of all sizes and ages) Screams and darting people appear from nowhere as the building continues to shake and shimmer! It’s the shaking, shimmering, quake event!

A strong wind begins to blow and almost collects Agent Dunham and Agent Redshirt as a vortex opens, a flash of light (laser pulse sound) and then - (echoed)silence. (track is silent except for ticking sound) As Agent Dunham rises, there’s - there’s nothing but an empty foundation in what’s left of what’s being called a “prevously unscheduled controled demotion.”

The conspiracy theorists are going to have a field day with this one! Time to strap on the drinky drinks, let your hair down and head a couple of blocks away! (boxing bell chimes) As Agent Dunham arrives for some social time out with Peter, she glances in Peter’s general direction she notices - Peter’s usual maniliness now includes - (melodic voices sound) shimmering light. (dramatic thud sound)

As Peter goes to get his coat, Walter Bishop calmly walks to her side and requests… “Agent Dunahm - please don’t tell him…”

And the Budda-Budda-Buumm Continues…

(Scratchy Record starts as music kicks in)Fringe-in-60+! is a quick and humorous transcripted podcast review of each and every episode of the hit Fox show, “Fringe”. Finally, record needle reaches the end of the record and is then quickly removed making a small scratching sound)

Mechanical Beeping in Sequence

Ticking Clock begins…

Part 2 of Fringe’s initial offering (whispers) Pilot begins with Dr. Walter Bishop synthesizing a proposed cure for the ailing and failing Agent John Scott from the listing of the synthetics used in the exploding storage units! The elixir is infused and is coursing through Agent Scott’s veins and >breathing gasp!< “I had a dream about you…” John Scott awakens! He’ll be clear in a week! Whoohoo!

Budda-budda-buum.. Dooopa-dooda-doopa, da doodoo doopa doooa…

Agent Dunham and Richard Steig have a detailed conversation where he tells her that the situation is not over! It was a dirty FBI agent that contracted him to infect his brother and the planeload of people with the mutagenic virus!! >GASP!< He can prove it! He buried the recording he had with the dirty agent! >GASP!< Agent Dunham follows his instructions and finds the recorded conversation and >GASP!< Recognizes the voice! It’s AGENT JOHN SCOTT! Who has now reached a strong enough state to leave his bed behind (sound of muffled screaming and struggle and raspy suffocating death) and Murder Richard Steig with his) and murders him with his own bed pillow! Dirty Agent John Scott is on the run!

(Ricochet!)

His in a blue SUV, with hot Agent Dunham in even hotter pursuit! His and hers vehicles are crashing together to and fro as if still in the hotel bedroom from last week inside the bed that was too loud. (Sound of screeching tires and revving engines). Unfortunately, Dirty Agent Scotts vehicle careens, ass over tea kettle! Dirty Agent Scott is ejected from the vehicle and as Dunham cradles him in her arms for what seems to be the last time, he says “(gasping, about to die) Ask yourself why Broyles sent you to the storage facility… Why you?” (gasping, dying sound) Apparently dirty Agent John Scott dies!

Agent Dunham is crushed and spends a long time thinking about longer times and future memories that will never come. (Echoing)Or will they? After a truth-seeking conversation with Agent Charile, Agent Dunham heads back to the Lab to talk to Walter and Peter Bishop. She ushers them into the here and now with facts about how Walter Bishop is needed to help confront the terrible things to come. That the only way to do so is to have Peter there along side him and finally - she convinces them both to stay in and on at her side.

The reason? The experiment that murdered so many on the plane was just the beginning. Both of them will stay on to continue their work investigating Fringe Science!

Dirty Agent Scott’s body is being wheeled into Massive Dynamic ! >GASP!< he’s been dead 5 hours but his interrogation has only begun! Nina orders that the procedure be initiated (echoes) immediately…

And the Budda-Budda-Buumm Continues…
