Lost Back in January?

March 31st, 2007 by Mike2GuysTalking

While I have to tell you that the best way to have a show presented in straight in through 24-style, I wonder what the LOST fen think of their show potentially not appearing until January?  Man that is a HAUL.  Until 24 debuted with the no break no rerun format, I never thought I would have the attention span to watch a show for 24 straight weeks and not miss a beat.  I suppose that I can “blame” our podcast for that, but it really is good to have a show to “call my own” for a period of time.  What are your thoughts on both a show running straight on through and/or having a show with a giant break in the middle?  Post it here at the 2GuysTalking Television Review Blogs now!

Lost to Start Back Up in January?

“Lost” star Naveen Andrews, who plays Sayid on the ABC series, told SCI FI Wire that he believes the network may be mulling a later start for the upcoming fourth season, which would begin in January and run straight without a break, like Fox’s “24.”

“I believe that’s the plan,” Andrews said.

He also thinks the show should be returned to it’s earlier time slot.

“I think they should make it sort of like what it was before. I liked it when it started a little bit earlier, because a lot of the audience are kids, aren’t they? I thought, hmm.”

BONES — And Everyone Knows But Boothe and Tempe

March 31st, 2007 by LindaAnne

Last night’s BONES to me was low on story end but high on development.  Even with storms in the area, I found the “murder of the week” slow, yet the secondary plots more intriguing.  It is not every man who will take a woman to a psychiastrist to get her help understand why she doesn’t understand/accept God!  The fact that Boothe recognizes issues that Tempe has means that he really cares for her.  Tempe, in her way, cares for Boothe, but she has hidden her feelings from everyone for son long that she doesn’t know how to express them.  I know it came from her abandonment, but come on Tempe, he’s standing right there!

FOX Tuesday Night

March 31st, 2007 by LindaAnne

Okay — I lost my password so no BONES from last week.  I refuse to write last week when this week’s will be on tonight.

I had good intentions.  I had planned to write it last night so I would be fresh for today’s episode.  Well, I turned on my television, set up my computer, and sat down.  I made the mistake of turning to American Idol in preparation for HOUSE.  What did I see instead?  I saw Sanjaya and his fauxhawk hair.  Well, it wasn’t long before my phone rang.  A friend had seen it and wanted to know what is the problem with that show.

“Exposé” Exposure

March 30th, 2007 by ESBaker

Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof have got to seriously stop listening to the audience wants and wishes. I am quite sure that the end that both Paulo and Nikki’s experienced in episode 3X14, “Exposé,” was not the way the original story line was going to unfold when both Rodrigo Santoro and Kiele Sanchez were contracted to join the cast of LOST.

Why am I saying this? Because there was so much hype over the fact that Rodrigo was signed to join the cast. He was the Brazilian Tom Cruise, the Brazilian Russell Crowe; he was going to be a great “eye candy” for the ladies and, according to an interview with TV Guide, Damon Lindelof actually said that “the ladies like it when he takes his shirt off…” In essence, there was a lot of hoopla, but nothing was delivered, because unfortunately, both Paulo and Nikki were introduced extremely badly and the audience did not take to them as well as the powers to be thought that they would be.

Medium – Dude! That’s some good shhhtuff!

March 29th, 2007 by Christine

This week’s Medium (3/28/07), What Possessed You, was a pretty interesting episode.  The opening dream sequence pays homage to The Exorcist, with a priest, a crazy/possessed woman and a floating bed.  In turn, the shocked priest falls down the stairs, similarly to Fr. Damian falling down the stairs outside of Reagan’s window.  I like when the show pays homage to horror movies.  The best one was to Stephen King’s Carrie in Mother’s Little Helper (1/3/07) where Ariel plays the part of Carrie in Allison’s dream.

Battlestar Galactica: Crossroads, Part 2

March 29th, 2007 by bigorangemichael

I have to admit, I’ve had a hard time putting together a coherent thought about this week’s season finale of Battlestar Galatica–except, “Holy frak, it’s going to be a long wait until January.”

It’s hard to not want to jump right to the last act with all the revelations that came left and right, but I won’t do that.  I will try to be patient and not discuss those until a bit later in the review.

OK, wait…I have to say it–holy cow, Tigh is a Cylon?!? What the hell?!?

So, back to the review…. Read the rest of this entry »

Save a show…

March 29th, 2007 by bigorangemichael

E’s Kirsten has her annual “Save a Show” poll up and running.  So, you can surf over, look at the list and pick one show to save.

Basically, you get to do what Jennifer Smith and I do every week on our podcast–play network exec.

Of course, if Jennifer finds out I voted for Friday Night Lights instead of Gilmore Girls or Veronica Mars, she might give me the Kim Bauer Cougar award this week….

And if you don’t get that, you might want to give the podcast a listen.  (Shameless self promotion, but what are you going to do?)

Lost, Canterbury, Decameron

March 29th, 2007 by PaulLev

An unusual, almost standalone, gem of an episode of Lost tonight, which detailed the lives on the island of two new characters, Nikki and Paolo.

Actually, they weren’t really new. They were on the plane and on the island with Jack, Sawyer, Kate, and all of our people all along - we just hadn’t seen them before a couple of weeks ago, when they were not so subtly introduced, so any one paying any attention would know that something was coming up with them.

I won’t tell you their story - except to say it was a good one, with a pretty nice twist. No need to spoil it for you if you haven’t seen the episode.

And it really wasn’t the main purpose of the episode, anyway.

The best delight of tonight’s Lost was seeing the whole story of Lost, from the beginning, except with Nikki and Paolo now in the picture. There’s Boone and Shannon arguing again in airport, Locke finding his feet on the island and looking around, Jack saying we have to work together or we won’t survive - it was good to see that again! - and even a nice short new scene with Ben and Juliet from a while back, which revealed a bit of important information.

The series at its best has always had a Canterbury Tale-ish, Decameronistic quality to it, and it very much had that flavor tonight.

Even though it did not move the central story forward.

But tonight, that was no problem at all.

Bob Dylan and the Battlestar Galactica Sandwich (mild spoilers)

March 28th, 2007 by PaulLev

Battlestar Galactica this season was a sandwich in which the bread was spectacular but the meat was, well, chopped liver. The opening sequence of episodes in the Fall were among the best of anything I’ve ever seen on television. Picking up perfectly from the stunning events at the end of last season, the first shows this past Fall put BSG easily in the company of the best of Star Trek.

The last few minutes of the season finale on Sunday were similarly superb. We’ll be talking all summer about how those four people - four! - on Galactica could really be Cylons, and who the fifth still unidentified Cylon really is.

And the Dylan song was prime. Viewers have been speculating about what “All Along the Watchtower” from the 1960s says about the timeframe we are now seeing on Galactica. Here’s a point to keep in mind: ships travel faster than speed of light in Galactica’s universe. So there’s really no telling how far into the future Galactica’s story is taking place, based on the song.

And when you add in the possibility of time travel - which, admittedly, we haven’t seen on Galactica, but hey, this is science fiction - then Battlestar Galactica could still be taking place in the distant past, even with the Dylan song heard by the Cylons.

I actually doubt that time travel will be the way this will be resolved, but even just thinking about this is precisely what made this part of BSG such fine television.

As for the rest - well, let’s not dwell on it overly. Show after show which didn’t really move the central story forward, a few good personal interactions - but not the stuff of soaring TV.

Fortunately, that’s all in the past now. The finale did just what it was supposed to, and I eagerly await the resumption of the series in 2008.
