Nielsen Ratings - Where do YOU rank?

June 30th, 2007 by Mike2GuysTalking

While we’ve listed and talked about them in the 2GuysTalking: 24 Podcast, something I don’t think we’ve ever tried here at the Television Review Blogs, is asking YOU, the reader - are you actually WATCHING what is listed as “number 1, etc” in the ever-glory-dictating Nielsen Ratings?  Here’s a listing of the current Nielsen Ratings and my take on it as of July 1st, 2007, and I want to hear from everyone!

1. America’s Got Talent
– I’ve never seen it other than flipping through, like with so many other talent-based shows.  If you watch, why?

2. Dateline NBC
– I’ve watched the same amount of “Idiot Pedophiles Caught in the Act” jerky confessionals, but more than not - not really.  Have you watched this and if so what OTHER THAN, the “Caught in the Act” segments can you tell me you’ve seen?

3. So You Think You Can Dance
– I have never seen this show, but read about McCartney’s Ex being on it.  If you watch, do you have any interest in dancing or are you watching a celebrity television show where they’re just dancing?

4. Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?
– I have four or 5 glowing testimonials from coworkers, but I’ve not seen anything other than a commercial here and there.

5. Deal or No Deal
– I’ve seen this because it’s where I would get a nap in before “24″ Ha!  Any Howie lovers out there?

6. NCIS
– This is the only show that I capture on Tivo and watch after I’ve captured like 10 episodes straight.  I like Mark Harmon, I like the chemistry of the cast, the stories are a bit outlandish, but hey - what isn’t nowadays?

7. CSI
– I’ve seen my share just like you have, but nothing when it’s new.  How about you?

8. Law & Order: SVU
– I’ve seen pieces of this while flipping through, but never seen a complete episode of it.

9. Two and a Half Men
– I’m not a current Charlie Sheen fan.  Have you seen it and do you recommend it?

10. CSI: Miami
– I’ve seen probably 8 episodes of this in total, because I’ve always thought that lead actore David Caruso left for moviedom WAY too early and really does have some skill.  I’ve not followed it but it apparently has audience.  Are you watching it?

So there we have it - where do YOU rank in the Nielseon Rankings?  Let us know now by surfing over to the TelevisionReviewBlogs.Com and let us know what you think!

Kyle XY – The Prophet

June 29th, 2007 by Christine

Kyle XY – Season 2, Episode 1 – The Prophet – 6/11/07

If you haven’t seen Episode 1 of Season 2, here there be spoilers!

Recap:

Kyle spends time with his “creator,” Adam Baylin. Adam explains that Kyle was created in a lab, called Zzyzx, as an experiment. Adam gestated inside his mother’s womb longer than the nine months in which most babies develop. A side effect of this longer gestation period is higher intelligence and special abilities. Adam decided it would be a good idea to see what would happen if a developing human were allowed to gestate for a really long time. Kyle finds out that he had been gestating up until the point he was found in the woods in the first episode. This explains why he doesn’t remember anything before this point and why he was covered in goo. He was also kept in a very large test tube, which is why he doesn’t have a belly-button and why he only feels comfortable enough to sleep in a bathtub. Adam shows Kyle an example of his special abilities by moving a glass of water without touching it. Adam is in hiding from Madacorp and Zzyzx after a falling out with the others involved in the project. Read the rest of this entry »

An Introduction to KYLE XY

June 28th, 2007 by Christine

Even though summer TV viewing options are lighter during the summer months, there are still a few pretty good shows to watch. One of those shows is Kyle XY . The basic concept of the show is that a teenaged boy (Matt Dallas), without a belly-button, wakes up in the woods outside of Seattle, Washington, naked, with no idea of who he is or from where he came. He’s taken in by a psychiatrist, Nicole Trager (Marguerite MacIntyre), and he becomes part of her family. And although in some ways Kyle is like a newborn child, in other ways he has remarkable talents most people don’t learn in a lifetime – the ability to read lips, uncanny mathematical ability, etc. Essentially, the first season is spent in the mystery of Kyle – slowly discovering things about him. We find out that Kyle has absolutely no memories of being a child. Kyle doesn’t sleep for several days when he first moves in with the Tragers, and doesn’t seem to have any ill effects from the lack of sleep. He finally has his first night of sleep when he discovers he feels at home sleeping in the bathtub. Kyle can also draw exactly what he sees in a pixel-like, pointillism method of drawing. The first season ends when a couple claiming to be Kyle’s parents picks him up and takes him “home.” As the second season begins, unlike other popular shows, we begin to get real answers to the question, “Who is Kyle XY?” Read the rest of this entry »

Comicnaut Podcast: Show Notes Episode 4a

June 26th, 2007 by Ryan Parker - Comicnaut Podcast

Episode 4a of the Comicnaut Podcast is the 2nd half of a awesome round table discussion between me, Mike, the manager of the Fantasy Shop Comics in O’fallon, MO, and his friend Matt, another avid reader.

In this episode:

- What is the ULTIMATE jumping on point for new readers?

- Are there too many titles for the same characters in the comic world?

- Are comics the important social medium that fans think they are?

- What fate to comics await in the future?

It’s all available in this second of two great roundtable discussions at the Comicnaut.com, only on the 2GuysTalking Podcast Network!

We just pretty much let it fly and the discussions went quite well and I think very entertaining. The audio on the intro is real “quiet” but the rest of the discussion is very easy to hear.Click here to listen and be sure to leave your comments here to be entered into the 2GuysTalking Podcast Network’s FREE Favorite TV Season DVD Comment Contest!

Friday Night Lights coming to DVD

June 26th, 2007 by bigorangemichael

TV Shows on DVD is reporting that Friday Night Light’s first season debuts on DVD Aug. 26th.

Interestingly, they have a scan of a solicitation ad taken out by NBC/Universal for the set and it lists the MSRP at $29.95.

Now, Friday Night Lights ran 22 episodes in its first season.  It won a loyal audience, critical acclaim and hopefully will pick up some Emmy nods. It also got a second season that NBC will be pushing around the time the DVDs come out.

I can’t help but wonder if the low MSRP is to give those viewers who’ve heard good things about the show the ability to sample it for a low price.

As a huge fan of this show, I hope it’s true and that it works…
