The Washington Post’s Gene Weingarten posted his list of the 30 greatest sit-com characters of all-time. His guidelines are: Sitcoms are sitcoms: Animated series, however good, do not qualify. American shows only, please.

Since this doesn’t include British sit-coms, I cant’ include Basil Fawlty, who is one of my favorite sit-com characters EVER, brought brilliantly to life by John Cleese.
