Opinion Review: When Stargate SG-1 first hit the cable, I actually didn’t like it.   I think it added some new elements that weren’t in the movie and it was a little slow.   But after a few episodes, I got into it and I was and still remain a fan of Stargate.  The show itself was the longest running Sci-fi show in the United States, lasting I believe, 10 seasons.  But after the final episode, the show didn’t go into hiatus.  Immediately they went into production on two “made for DVD” movies.

Prison Break, 5 days to season premiere

August 28th, 2008 by Prison Break Mary

Be patient, I say to myself, in 5 days you will have a whole 2 hours of Prison Break to enjoy.
In the meantime we can all read the interview Sarah Wayne Callies gave to TVaddict.

What does it feel like to be back on PRISON BREAK this season?
Sarah Wayne Callies: It’s definitely odd from a performance standpoint, because psychologically, my relationship to ‘Sara’ was over. But I’d never come back to a character I put away and resuscitating Sara was a very new and exciting process for me. In a way I consider it great practice because there’s a history in theatre of returning to the same character and bringing something new to the role.
Also, being back at work is great. It’s a really good group of people and it’s always nice to work with people who you trust and with whom you have good relationships with.

Did the media frenzy that followed your character’s apparent beheading last fall surprise you?
Honestly, I’m pretty insulated from all the media attention. I don’t really get any magazines, I don’t have a television and I don’t allow myself to go online and look at those kinds of things. Although my husband does periodically monitor things.

I imagine when you dreamt about become an actress, hours upon hours of interviews didn’t factor into the equation?
Actually, I was going to be a professor. I figured that would be the track I’d take, but I ended up not doing that.

A professor? Talk about a career 180. How did you get off track?
In my senior year of College I did a huge research project that was sort of a prelude to a Ph.D. But after ten weeks of being locked in the little library researching for six months, I thought, this was way too lonely.

WOW! So you then decided to choose the one career where you’re guaranteed to be surrounded by people for the rest of your life!
[Laughs] Not lonely at all! Although I sometimes wish I could lock myself in a small room at the library but that’s just a great cosmic sense of irony for you.

So were you prepared for this side of the business. Attending the Television Critics Association Press Tour, Comic Con and now the Fall Fox Press Junket. How on earth do you the endless amounts [of undoubtedly similar] questions
I sort of look at the whole publicity side of things as a performance unto itself. I’m performing the role of Sarah Wayne Callies. And this public performance isn’t the person that I am, but rather the person that I feel is appropriate to share with the public.

Without spoiling anything, were you surprised with what happened to Michael and Sara in the season premiere?
You’ve seen the first episode? I haven’t! I would love to… Really… [Sarah glances over at a FOX Executive who kindly lets her know that they’ll be happy to get her a copy of the premiere! Insert obvious heads will roll joke!]
I think in a way that was the only way to do it. As soon as fans learned that Sara’s back, they know that Michael will find her. So there isn’t really structurally any suspense in that. So at that point, it can just become manipulative to make the audience wait and wait and wait. I think it’s more interesting to get that under our belts and move on with things that people might not expect.

Would you not agree that the season opener almost acts like a pilot for an entirely different show.
We’re our own spin-off this season which is so exciting. I mean I just got the outline for episode eight and it’s really interesting the kinds of things I’m able to explore this season that Sara’s never gotten near before. I think it would be difficult to be on a show that season after season is a version of the same thing. It would be hard to stay creatively excited about something like that.

Which coincidentally enough is one of the questions I always love to ask actors. How hard is it to play the same character for seasons on end?
If the character doesn’t evolve, yes it’s hard. But thankfully the writers have never put me in that position. Sara changes a lot. She’s also very deeply flawed which is much more interesting than playing a saint. Sara’s choices, especially this season, keep surprising both her and me. So far it’s very interesting.

One of my other favorite questions for actors is if you ever get concerned with being typecast as ‘Dr. Sara Tancredi’ for the rest of your career?
I spent a lot of time training as an actor and I hope and I think that I’ve acquired the tools to play a pretty broad range of things that might surprise certain casting directors, producers and directors who haven’t seen me act. I believe in the open mindedness of the casting directors, producers and directors and believe that if I can get in a room with them, I could show them that I could do anything.

Proof That in LOST Death Means Nothing

August 26th, 2008 by ESBaker

This may be spoilerish. If you are the type who wants to know nothing about the up and coming Season 5 of LOST, look no further.

According a number of sources, Michelle Rodriguez is coming back to at least one episode of LOST. According to TVGuide.com, she will be featured in a possible Hurley flashback.  All sources claim that the Ana Lucia character was meant to be short term only and her demise was not spurned upon the fact that Miss Rodriguez was arrested and charged with a DUI in Hawaii.

Caption Hunt: The Bank Job

Movie Viewing Date: 8-22-08
Movie Title: The Bank Job
DVD/HDDVD/BluRay: DVD
Reviewed By: Thomas Russell

Intro: I’m a fan of Jason Statham since I first saw his debut role in Guy Ritchie’s brilliant “Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels”.  When Statham and Ritchie teamed up again in “Snatch” (with Brad Pitt’s hilariously unintelligible-speaking character nearly stealing the movie), I was completely sold on Statham and I had seen most of his movies since then.  I am a fan of heist movies (as stated in “Mad Money” review) and I learned that “The Bank Job” was based on a true story that took place in 1971.  The heist had a number of unforseenable complications and the robbers had to figure out a way out of that heist alive.

Opinion Review: It was cool to see London as it appeared in 1971 and how people reacted to things during that time.  The movie wasn’t fast-paced but the director didn’t appear to take liberties with the facts - we were shown how it happened, why it happened, who was involved, and what everyone had to lose or gain from the heist.

Special/Supplemental Features Captioned: The DVD I rented did not have bonus features so I cannot comment on that here.

Overall Caption Rating: 2 - standard captioning with NO description…you’ll see musical notes that indicate music is being played but you have no idea what kind of music or how it’s being performed.

Overall Movie Rating: 3 - just an average heist movie that was based on what happened in 1971.  If you want adrenaline, this isn’t it for you.  If you like learning about something, then you will enjoy it with company.

Intro:

I think everyone, regardless of your interest in movies, likes to watch trailers, especially when they’re good ones.  I also believe I’ve found the golden nugget for those of you in our readership that are truly dependent on closed captions.  The Ultimate Trailer Show is exactly what it sounds like.  They take a variety of new and classic trailers and showcase them in glorious HD, but also — ALL ARE COMPLETELY CLOSED CAPTIONED thereby giving you unparalleled access to the stuff that you ONLY get to usually see at the theater if you’re going to an open captioned movie!  It’s a true treat, it’s delivered wonderfully with host Robert Wilonsky, and it’s the first of many that will appear here at The 2GuysTalking Caption Hunt Project review of the regularly-occurring 30-minute “The Ultimate Trailer Show”.

I’ve been a fan of American Chopper since the beginning of the show many moons ago.  It’s not because I was so interested in being witness to the continual arguing, banter, screaming and destructive atmosphere that’s created by the always-popular-to-talk-about Father and Son team of Paul Sr. and Pauly, it’s because the final product created are - simply put, works of art and truly one of a kind.  The creativity, the attractive nature of all of the final bikes, and the spirit of “making someone no one else can” not surprisingly is endearing to me.  The McCuff Industries approached Orange County Choppers for this build to help make them yet another one-of-a-kind custom chopper to help launch their product, and I’m proud to detail it in this edition of The 2GuysTalking Caption Hunt of American Chopper: The McCuff Build.

Caption Hunt: The Eye

Movie Title: The Eye
DVD/HDDVD/BluRay: DVD

Intro: I had heard that “The Eye” is an American version of a Chinese movie called “Gin Gwai” so I checked it out.  I’ve checked out American versions of foreign movies in the past and most of the time, the American version works out just fine.

Previews/Commercials Captioned: No

Opinion Review: The Eye falters a bit in several places, probably due to translation difficulties of Americanizing “Gin Gwai”.  The ending was “eh”.  I was told that the Chinese version was scary as hell and…I wasn’t scared at all.  Maybe I should check out that original version and see what has been changed and see if it is scarier than “The Eye”.

Intro: I like Jon Heder and it seemed like it may be an enjoyable movie when it comes to Heder and comedy.  How can you go wrong when the movie also has Diane Keaton and Jeff Daniels?

Previews/Commercials Captioned: No

Opinion Review: The movie had its moments but what really surprised me was the acting range of Anna Faris.  You would remember Faris best as the dumb blonde who stumbles through each one of “Scary Movie” franchise.  Faris was the perfect foil to Heder’s obnoxious character and they had good chemistry in the movie.  Other than that, you just knew that Heder would grow up, move out, and get the girl.

Intro: I love heist movies.  Enough said.  LOL  Why do I love heist movies?  Maybe because you wonder if they’ll get away with it or if they’ll turn on each other.  This movie has Diane Keaton and Queen Latifah with Katie Holmes making her 1st appearance since the birth of her daughter.

Previews Captioned: No

Opinion Review: The movie takes on a fun approach to Diane Keaton’s character’s world and how she became involved in the heist - she says “I have a theory that crime is contagious”.  The heist is brilliantly simple and it makes you think - everyone KNOWS it’s wrong, but you have to decide just how wrong it is.  I enjoyed the movie.
