LOST, Season 5, premieres on Wednesday, January 21, 2008 at 8 pm ET. The first hour is a clip show that recaps the events through the last episode of Season 4. At 9 pm, the actual premiere starts. Don’t forget to either set your DVR or to make sure you watch the show. From what I hear, the episode will be amazing.

Oh how the mighty have fallen. Not too long ago, Ben Linus, the crafty and enigmatic leader of a mysterious group known as the Others, was causing plenty of grief for the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815 on Lost, even going so far as holding a handful of them against their will. Then, however, the tables were turned, and during the show’s third year he became their prisoner. Ben remained a captive in season four, but that soon became the least of his worries. As events unfolded, he made sure to keep his wits about him, as did the actor who plays him, Michael Emerson.
“For me, the acting challenge in season four was finding ways to maintain the mystery of my character while allowing the viewers to get to know him a little better,” explains Emerson. “I mean, a bit more about Ben was revealed last year. We got a sense of him as a father as well as a vulnerable character; those types of colors were added to him. At the same time, we kept audiences guessing. His position on the scale of good and bad is still in question, which is great. They [the show’s writers] do a nice balancing act, and the softening of the viewers’ attitude towards Ben is going to be used, manipulated, and possibly turned against those watching as time goes on. When the pendulum swings one way with a character, they need to have it swing in the other direction in order to keep audiences off-balance. Read the rest of this entry »

Nestor Carbonell, Lost
It’s rather impossible to share much of what was discussed at Lost’s TCA Winter Press Tour session on Friday, since to do so would delve into the first few episodes — the third of which was screened for reporters just before exec producers Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof took the stage. Here, though — and to supplement my teasy afternoon Facebook updates — are some Dharma-approved sound bites:
Lost’s “True Mystery” Revealed!
Coming off of Richard Alpert’s appearance in this season’s Episode 3, Lindelof refuted one press person’s contention that Nestor Carbonell wears too much eyeliner (especially when projected on the Hilton ballroom’s 20-foot screens). “We had the same [observation] you did, but he does not wear any mascara, no eyeliner, nothing.” Cuse chimed in to call Carbonell’s distinct eyes “the true mystery of Lost.”
Cane Almost Soured Lost’s Master Plan
Speaking of Carbonell, had CBS’ Cane found success a year ago (instead of tanking in short order), the Lost bosses would have had to resort to “Plan B, which would have been catastrophic,” says Lindelof. Since the final two seasons rely heavily on the ageless Alpert, the show decided to avoid such another scare and secured Carbonell’s services through Season 6. Read the rest of this entry »

Ever wonder how LOST can keep its timeline accurate even though some episodes touch upon a certain event a few months apart? Well, that’s the job of the script coordinator, Mr. Gregg Nations. Here’s a nice article about him.—ESBaker

WHAT ever happened to the four-toed statue? Why do some inhabitants of the island never seem to age? What is the Smoke Monster? And, as one of the time-traveling survivors of the crash of Oceanic Airlines Flight 815 asks in the premiere of the new season of “Lost,” Wednesday on ABC, “When are we now?”
With 34 episodes to go in its two final seasons, the stories of nearly 100 characters to wrap up, several Dharma stations to keep track of and a whole lot of time traveling going on, the writers of “Lost” are doing anything but winding down. Yet their task — untangling the seemingly impenetrable mass of plotlines that have become addictive to some viewers of the show and alienating to others — is relatively simple compared with that of Gregg Nations.
