Umm, excuse me. Can you tell me where my October went? It was just - right here.
October has always been source of fun, entertainment and engagement for my family and I, but that’s nothing new. I’ve ALWAYS enjoyed October, a month that has offered up new epic tales of baseball conclusions, television series, movies of all kinds and memories of Halloween festivities that continue until this day.
I’ve recently re-connected with so many people via a variety of New Media resources (Facebook leading the way, with Twitter and three happy-accidents following in second place) over just the last two weeks, which has offered up something truly special. Those new contacts with old friends (and enemies
) have allowed me to have an outstanding revisit to memories long-gone-by that have come out in many of my writings and subsequent podcasts that have really created a series of entertainment I’m proud of.
Click the links to the items below and please let me know if there’s something YOU remember that these memories, reviews and podcasts remind you of by leaving commentary here!

Mike Wilkerson unholsters his electrified pencil and takes aim at this week’s FlashForward Podcast review! Week 5, “Gimme’ Some Truth” begins with a strange FlashForward of it’s own. A courtroom conclusion, arguments from previously cool headed waters, and a black van with asian guns ready to put a variety of holes into familiar foreheads! All this, an explosion with no discernible series of conclusions and more starts off this week’s 2GuysTalking FlashForward podcast!

— Perspective Tales: One of the most important traits of entertainment that I’ve come to revel in over my many years of television and feature film review is that success is often based (for good or for bad) on the pacing of a project. To date, FlashForward has nailed pacing into some great final showcases in regard to the previous four episodes. This episode takes a different tack and ends up showing us something much nearer to the conclusion FIRST, and then vaults into “how did we get here” mode of pacing. I’m not sure it’s going to work here. Even though this show is essentially a “time travel” piece that provides contents that we will eventually connect like dots to make a clearer and defined picture later on, I think moving to this kind of pacing for this show is a bad move and almost lends the feel of having a gimmick. Cold Case is able to pull of something in the same vein each episode, but that show is based on a significant period of time passing between the initial “murder” and the solving of the Cold Case. I’m hoping this is a test of the FlashForward audience waters and I’d recommend that we all respond with a clear cut “not so much.” Be sure to let us know what YOU think about this via The 2GuysTalking: FlashForward Podcast now by accessing the website at FlashForwardPodcast.Com, click on the contact button on the top right of the page, fill out the quick webform and let us know what YOU think of this episodes pacing style!

Heroes “Strange Attractor” tried to give us a little bit of horror, a little bit of Sylar and a little more insight into the Carnival. It succeeded in two of those areas.

In Britain, Season 5 of LOST will be released on October 26, 2009, which spurned on this interview with MIchael Emerson—ESBaker
Season Five of US drama series Lost crashes onto Blu-ray and DVD on 26th October 2009, as the stranded survivors of the Oceanic Airlines 815 crash continue their frantic bid to escape the island…and their demons.
In a groundbreaking narrative which jumps erratically through time, Lost: Season Five inches towards resolution, following two parallel storylines focused both on and off the island; on the island, the remaining survivors end up stuck in a period of time after being stranded with the Dharma Initiative in 1977. The other story continues the original timeline, following the Oceanic Six’s return on Ajira Airways Flight 316 in 2007.
Michael Emerson plays the sinister Ben Linus…
What do you think of Ben Linus?
I think Ben is a complicated character. He’s capable of murder and all kinds of seemingly heinous behavior, but we’re not quite sure what his larger game is. What are the stakes? What is he playing for? What is the prize? And who benefits from the prize? Who might he be saving or protecting? I think the jury is still out and I’m happy about that. Maybe at the end of the show we might never know whether he’s the good guy or the bad guy. It would be fine with me if the ending was completely ambiguous in that regard.

I’ve been meaning to talk about this topic for a few weeks now, but let’s just say it got “Lost” in the shuffle. Incidentally, I’ve been writing this blog for more than two years and somehow avoided that pun until now. I know. Impressive. I find cash to be an acceptable gift, if you’re so inclined. Tickets to this will also work nicely.
Everyone’s looking forward to some real, honest-to-Jacob answers come Season 6. Some of these answers will undoubtedly be fulfilled, to varying degrees of audience satisfaction. For instance, I’m pretty sure the show won’t close without “Lost” giving us an idea of the smoke monster’s true purpose, identity, function, and/or derivation. But there are a host of B- and C-level mysteries that may or may not actually be answered in the show’s final 18 hours. One man’s mystery is another writer’s red herring.
I want to look at what I feel is a B-level mystery. Until the latter half of Season 5, I wouldn’t have placed it above Level C. But given the events that transpired once Ajira 316 landed on the Hydra Island airstrip, I feel it deserves a bump up. It’s probably not a central mystery on the minds of many people, but in many ways it might help contextualize a lot of the interactions between some of the show’s major players. Here’s the mystery I want solved in Season 6:

Damon Lindelof began his Hollywood career reviewing scripts for Paramount, Fox and Alan Ladd studios. From there, he moved on to writing, most notably on TV shows, including “Nash Bridges” and the Tim Kring helmed “Crossing Jordan.” Lindelof soon hit the big time as co-creator and executive producer of the hit ABC TV Show “Lost,” where he cemented his relationship with J.J. Abrams, who he has continued to work with, most recently in the revitalization of the “Star Trek” franchise which Lindelof co-produced.

You gotta love a man who likes to clear the air.
Harold Perrineau just rang up to kindly reveal an answer to our blind item—”Guess Who’s Not Returning to Lost?”—which outed a former Lost star as a holdout to return for the final season.
It’s not him.
Despite everyone and their mother’s brother’s lover (even the Los Angeles Times!) assuming Harold (Michael) was the Lost holdout, Harold reveals that he has not turned down an offer to return to the show.
So does that mean he’s coming back?

A dash of over-the-top drama speckles the 5th week of ABC’s Flashforward. Is this the hiccup we were waiting for in earlier episodes? Has a the strong, driving story hit a speed bump in this episode? What details and puzzle pieces await in this episode, “Black Swan” that will help flesh out the picture that awaits us in late April, 2010? It’s time once again to breakdown the thoughts we had here for you and ask you what YOU thought of this episode of ABC’s FlashForward.
As with many of my online reviews, I’ll be providing you with a stream-of-consciousness, point by point series of items that give you essentially what I’m thinking of as the show airs. I encourage everyone to take the time to chime in on each but also to bring up your own and to talk more about this and future episodes in the discussion area below!
Let the review and discussion of episode 4, “Black Swan” of ABC’s FlashForward begin!
– Strange Opening: Had I not been watching this program from the beginning of the season, I might have mistaken this opening for a strange, avante garde credit card commercial or identity theft or an investment overview about risk and “avoiding the unthinkable.” With a strangely sedate musical interlude, we see “the blackout” happening in slow motion as mayhem ensues with the focus finally zeroing in on a bus pushing forth into a waterway and sinking quickly. A man (who we now know is Ned Ned) comes to with headphones blaring on his head and helps one of many people trapped inside the bus escape. This was two weeks ago. Again, the production design team here really had their game on and gave us visual heraldry of a very strange time and place through an interesting pictorial prism.
– “At peace, happy and oh - I was black like Oprah”: I don’t know that the show has enough remarkable banter yet to make a “Quote of the Episode” but this one struck a cord when a very serene Ned Ned shows up in the Emergency Room to be checked out for pain he was feeling. He truly hasn’t a care in the world and is wielding his FlashFoward as a trumpet of truth for all to see and learn about. His mention of walking into a club he’d have never gone into and ‘being at peace, happy and oh - I was black like Oprah” caught me off guard as did the visual. I thought perhaps he’d been burned or something from the effects used during the showcase here.
– Bureau Violating Rights and Gettin’ All Dick Cheney on Her Ass: I was all set to lean over and mark a strike against the show as being ridiculously “left-handed” but alas, it was a one-two combination that truly saved not only this evening’s episode, but also provided a smile. I’m all for shows providing us detail but offering up a nice frosting-filled political statement - well, it surely divides usually and I was happy to see that they smacked the political ass on both fleshy cheeks here as they refer to what needs to be done with the still-in-custody blonde terrorist. Thanks ABC’s FlashForward!
– Do YOU leave chips if they get stuck? In this episode, a strange bit of the mundane takes place. Dr. Benford grabs a generic snack of “Chips” potato chips in a vending machine and they don’t eek their way out of the machine all the way and are lodged in the machine. Question: Do you just LEAVE your snack there for someone else to score a double dose when they come along? I don’t. For those that haven’t ever seen the right/left-foot, two-handed tilt swish maneuver, drop me an Email and I’ll send you the video of my snack retrieval prowess in action.
– Yellowcake - because the label says so! Ha! This was my second or third nod of “too much drama for drama’s sake” and when Agent Noh then opens up the backpack and he looks at the silvery, strange box that says “Yellow Cake” on it and then the line is drawn to nuclear material - oof. Are we REALLY supposed to think that, because of his pre-destined future, that Now thinks this is REALLY Yellow Cake material? While I’m happy the payoff here is quick and not based on “some report” that can’t then be verified ala another Yellow Cake situation, this seemed a bit forced for my tastes. What did YOU think?

Today’s review will look at the last two chapters of Heroes, chapters four and five. First, “Acceptance” chapter four; I don’t know what to say. A nice story; made sense, but even the intense part was, at best, just OK. No, not bad, just nothing striking.

It’s always been said that good things come in threes. I’m here to tell you today that this week, 4s is the best number. In this 4th week of SPIKE’s The Ultimate Fighter, we see some of the best samples of Mixed Martial Arts television content EVER. Is it because of the fight showcased? Nope. Is it because we - see MORE KIMBO SLICE? Not at all. This episode is all about showing you perspective and it’s great to see in a show where only a year ago, we were being “entertained” by bodily-fluid-drenched sushi.
Glove-up, straddle in and knuckle up as we get to this 4th week of SPIKE’s The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights here at THE SAVAGE SCIENCE!
As with many of my online reviews, I’ll be reviewing this episode in a “stream of consciousness” format, giving you essentially what I’m thinking as the show airs. This is the best and surely most one-of-a-kind opportunity for you to chime in and tell us what you think about this season of Spike’s The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights and be sure to listen to our TUF Tally - a quick, no-holds-barred call of this episodes fight via the 2GuysTalking: Podcast: Savage Style!
– Kimbo’s Style Really Changed: Umm, not really. While his physique surely has changed from training well, eating mostly good things and two-a-day professional training sessions, he still looks to me like the Kimbo that - fights with his hands, doesn’t he? Where is all of this dynamic movement and “ground game” that the people featured in this opening volley are talking about? Seemed to me that Kimbo, threw punches, got mounted, lived through the first round and then - in the second round, got mounted and done. Other than LOSING again, what trend have we started here with a “new” Kimbo Slice?
