The Cameron Cornucipia - The Value of James Cameron
A Complete Review of Movies Directed by James Cameron in
a Prelude to Avatar
We are on the cusp of the
debut of one of Hollywood’s most anticipated releases in years, James
Cameron’s Avatar. With concern about being the “most expensive movie in
feature film history” and its likening to the wars overseas (essentially
a movie-inspired take on the conquest of big oil over the small but
feisty, native inhabitants of “Pandora”), there is a lot for Avatar and
James Cameron to overcome even before its official release. Like most
things however, one can find many potential answers from a review of the
previous history of just about anything. Whether it’s the potential of a
person to pay back money they might receive or the value to be reaped
from a multi-million dollar blockbuster, answers can be found in what’s
come before.
We’ll take a look at the movie history of director James Cameron to
showcase how they succeeded, and what those trends mean for Avatar – a
film that could be one of the most ground-breaking films all time or a
very expensive, experimental crash-and-burn experience for James
Cameron.
If you ask anyone interested in movies to name a film by director James
Cameron, the listing is filled with staples in feature film lore. The
Internet Movie Database allows visitors to populate a listing of
directorial showcases for Cameron that make the mind reel...

Horror Plus Crime = Se7en (1995)
Welcome to the fourth
installment in Screen Rant’s Halloween lead-up series called “Horror
Plus” - a feature which showcases one film, dipped into the
stapled-flavor of another genre to create something unique, something
all its own.
Be sure to go back and review our first, second, and third installments
in the series: Horror Plus Comedy: Shaun of the Dead, Horror Plus
Sci-Fi: Alien, and Horror Plus Thriller: 28 Days Later. Also look for
more that we hope to put up for you to read as we soon arrive at the end
of October, 2009!
While we might consider “Crime” to actually be a piece of the horror
genre as a matter of course, it’s important to remember many films
feature something altogether different when it comes to “crime.” In this
case we’re referring to the more procedural aspects of “Crime” and the
movie we’ll be focusing on, that dips quickly and often into “Crime”
genre throughout it’s runtime, is the movie Se7en.
(The following contains game-over-level SPOILERS for the movie
“Se7en“)
While re-watching this film to collect details and nuance, I thought
several times to myself, “is this REALLY a horror film with a dash of
crime sprinkled throughout? My final answer would have to be an
undeniable YES, for all of the best reasons. For those of you who
haven’t yet seen Se7en, the plot is straight-forward and tantalizing.
Morgan Freeman portrays a case-hardened detective (Somerset) who is
retiring in a mere 7 days. Brad Pitt plays a young investigative-gun
from a faraway city (Mills) who will essentially be filling the shoes of
Somerset. ...

Fun For Everyone Halloween Movies
- The First of Three!
Halloween festivities here
at The 2GuysTalking: Screen Rant-style Podcast continue, and while
everyone first thinks of zombies and soon-to-be-eaten brains this time
of year, we’ve also been busily looking through libraries of
fun-for-everyone “Halloweenesque” movies and have come up with a first
installment that is Howling Heaps of Halloween Film Fun!
It’s time to grab a should-be-for-trick-or-treaters bowl of candy, your
favorite cold or warm beverage and head for your home theater to partake
in some ghoul and ghosty-ridden Halloween Movie Fun! Listen on below to
revel in the first installment of Fun For Everyone Halloween Film Fun
and afterward tell us what YOUR favorite Halloween-fun-time movie via
the contact form button on the top right above!
5: GhostBusters (1984): Nested in the many movies that made
soundtracks a phenomenon in the 80s (Top Gun, The Lost Boys, et al) is
the movie that answers the question, “Who you gonna’ call?” This Harold
Ramis/Dan Akroyd penned humor-laden scarefest provides you (literally)
with the answer to that question, as a team of “Ghostbusters” scour New
York City to rid the Big Apple of ghouls and ghosties of every kind.
There are adult themes in this movie - however, when you break it all
down it’s a fun piece of Hollywood perfection that I’ve recently heard
is on Blu-ray with a ton of extra features that will surely make a great
Halloween-based review of its own. There is a sequel and a number of
video games based on this franchise as well, offering a little bit of
something for everyone just this side of the “streams you should not
cross.”
Fiendish Fun Factor: Teamwork, teamwork, teamwork: While
Ghostbusters is remembered, few would admit that it’s one of the last
times a cast of humor-generating greats were on screen and DIDN’T SUCK.
The chemistry between the three leads and supporting cast is some of the
best ever and something I don’t think any of the actors has achieved
again..."

Baseball Movies - A Lineup of Undeniable Hits!
In 1982, I remember
hoisting little Mike Sopocy on my shoulders after we’d won the Little
League Championship Tournament in Schaumburg, IL. In those days,
baseball wasn’t just something I participated in during the summer when
we were off school, it was a life - complete with its own culture,
vernacular and a dedication that continues to fuel my competitive
juices.
This week, professional baseball teams from 4 metropolitan cities gather
in a variety of arenas to determine who will go head-to-head in the
final test of baseball greatness - The World Series - an event that
always unveils itself in the crisp days of October.
There’s something about baseball that drives everyone. Whether it’s
using baseball-riddled colloquialisms to describe your success or
failure level on a workplace task; to describe how fast time is going
during an event; or even how far you are along in a whimsical teenage
physical relationship, baseball permeates everything around us. It
offers a true emotional roller coaster ride for all and that point’s
never been showcased more than by the feature films that showcase the
game.
Join the Screen Rant Team as we give you the real-life box score for
some of the great “Baseball Hit” feature films from years gone by and
remember to chime in below with YOUR favorites!
Base on Balls
Major League (1989)
Ahh, for those that wonder, I was one of the tens of thousands of extras
you’ll see in the audience scenes in Major League. This comedy/cliche’d
yuckety-yuck movie features former Milwaukee Brewer Catcher-turned
announcer extraordinaire Bob Uecker, and was actually filmed at the
now-turned-to-dust Milwaukee County Stadium. I spent many a late
school-the-next-morning event with friends there and the evenings when
the film was being captured were no exception. Bob Uecker, Tom Berenger,
and a cast of very now-famous people shine in this film that is full of
over the top, cliche’d funnies that give you the lighter, dumber side of
baseball - true - but at the same time it IS truely fun. That aren’t a
lot of sports movies that can say that they get the comedy part right,
but this one did and does every time I watch it.Take a few minutes to

"The second week of ABC's
FlashForward arrives with knowledge, details, action and grandeur! Read
on below as I detail my thoughts from this second episode and remember -
if you missed this evenings episode, there is a scheduled encore edition
planned tomorrow evening. Same FlashForward time, same FlashForward
channel!
I'll be reviewing this and future episodes of FlashForward in a ironic
and incredibly-appropriate "stream of consciousness" format, giving you
essentially what I'm thinking as the show airs. I encourage everyone to
send feedback in regard to any of the points below and use this
opportunity as a sounding-off point to tell we here at Screen Rant what
YOU think about this season's launch, of ABC's FlashForward!
-- Stunning Visuals That Open The Episode: As we enter this
episode of FlashForward, we're gifted with some astounding visuals of
planet Earth, from just outside of standard shuttle and space station
orbit and - just stunning. I'm eager to learn whether or not they're
pure CG or perhaps something from one of the many and final missions of
our space shuttle adventures."
"A specific, untold 2
minutes and 17 seconds has been taunting future audiences for months
now. Tonight, we were finally served up not only a satisfyingly short
back story but a ton of future knowledge to come in ABC’s new series
FlashForward. The Screen Rant team is in the first row to offer you a
review of what is arguably one of 2009’s most anticipated Fall
television openings.
The FlashForward series opener, penned by comic book movie writer David
Goyer and Star Trek journeyman Brannon Braga, begins with a proverbial
smorgasbord of perspective. There were familiar faces: Joseph Fiennes,
John Cho (the new Sulu) and Sonya Walger (Penny from Lost)."
